The AX2065P is a new line array element that combines superior sound quality with ease and flexibility in a simple system with a very convenient price-performance ratio.
The AX2065P has been designed for both rental live sound reinforcement applications and fixed installations and has been engineered for the simplest possible use without sacrificing anything in terms of sound quality and performance.
TRANSDUCERS
The high-frequency range is reproduced by a low-distortion compression driver, featuring a very lightweight titanium diaphragm and a new special suspension design for a very natural sound. A transmission line waveguide has been used to load the HF driver, in order to provide detailed and natural sound and to achieve long-distance HF projection capability.
The two 6.5" woofers employed in the reproduction of the mid-low range feature very lightweight cones and rubber surrounds to extend the low-frequency response. The lightness of the diaphragm is further enhanced by the use of an aluminum voice coil instead of conventional copper. This ensures fast reproduction of mid-range and mid-low musical passages, also improving the thermal capacity of the voice coil and, consequently, controlling overall power compression. The two 6.5" woofers are rear-loaded by a short hybrid transmission line that minimizes the effect of cabinet resonances and eliminates the "boxy" mid-low sound commonly obtained from normal bass-reflex speakers, giving this module a natural cardioid directivity dispersion in the upper bass and mid-bass region.
SYSTEM CONCEPT AND SOUND PERFORMANCE
The AX2065P offers a simple yet innovative design in line array elements. The simple concept of the symmetrical WTW design is effectively implemented to minimize the effects of potential beaming phenomena around the crossover frequency.
To minimize these effects, many different details have been carefully engineered, the first of which is the choice of the HF driver unit. The special lightweight diaphragm used in this driver features very low mechanical resonance, thus allowing a relatively low crossover frequency point which is positioned in the 900Hz range.
Furthermore, the orientation of the two woofers minimizes the interference effect between them, while the use of a mechanical-acoustic polyurethane filter represents further aid in minimizing mid-frequency beaming.
The crossover filter approach is based on a "Constant Power" technique. Thanks to a particular phase combination between the two ways around the crossover frequency, this approach is able to provide very stable horizontal coverage and a very stable off-axis sound image, also minimizing unwanted effects around the crossover frequency. The further application of phase linearization techniques, combined with the constant power crossover, produces a linear phase response and a coherent time response. This allows for a natural perception of acoustic instruments and voices and an improved depth of the sound image.
